Canadian Council for Refugees is an umbrella organization, which MCRS is a member of, committed to defending men, women and children’s right to protection from persecution in their home country. They work with national and international organizations and committees to aid those seeking protection in Canada.


The Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) is the federal governing agency responsible for hearing refugee claims. The IRB partners with Citizenship and Immigration Canada and the Canada Boarder Services Agency in making decisions on immigration and refugee matters in Canada.

A Guide to Community Resources for Refugees and other Newcomers to Kitchener-Waterloo is a guidebook prepared by the Community Coalition for Refugee and Immigrant Concerns that provides useful information about services available in Kitchener and Waterloo.
