MCRS Digital Storytelling Project
The following was an excerpt from a blog post written about the MCRS Digital Storytelling Project: "Every day at MCRS we encounter the stories of people from around the world. Stories of loss, but also stories of hope for a life free from fear. Stories of ‘back home' and stories of a new home. Stories of lasts and firsts. Stories of separation and reunion."
Overview
This project seeks to develop MCRS' capacity to communicate with donors, supporters, other immigrant service organizations and the broader Waterloo Region community by involving past and present refugee claimants in using art, photography, music, and video to tell their stories of struggle, challenge, and hope for a new life in Canada. This project will have a significant impact on breaking down stereotypes about refugee claimants by giving a personal glimpse into the lives of women and men seeking refugee protection in Canada who live in Waterloo Region. Empowering refugee claimants to tell their own stories in support of MCRS' work increases the sense of ownership that past and present clients of MCRS have of the organization, and encourages active involvement in the community by newcomers.
For more information on the Digital Storytelling Project feel free to contact MCRS at (519) 571-1912 or by email.
Project generously funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
