Community Action Group

 

The Community Action Group (CAG) is a volunteer advocacy group focused on advocating for the rights of refugee claimants, and on educating the community about issues affecting refugee claimants. This program is designed to educate community members about issues refugee claimants face, such as barriers to healthcare, challenges of policies issues that may have a negative impact  for refugee claimants, myths affecting refugee claimants, etc.

The Community Action Group volunteers receive email updates regarding issues important to advocating for refugee claimants. The Community Action Group will provide volunteers with the knowledge and skills to advocate at a group level for the rights of refugee claimants in our community by educating the community and putting pressure on politicians to respect the rights of refugees.

 

MCRS is looking for volunteers to be involved in the Community Action Group. Requirements and Skills:

  • A commitment to respect all refugee claimants
  • Interest in learning about the challenges and barriers refugee claimants face upon arrival in Canada and specifically in Waterloo Region.
  • Ability to attend meetings to discuss strategies and learn about new issues.
  • A willingness to take action and advocate on behalf of refugee claimants.
